A quick history: just as the name suggests, Vinho Verde is from a part of northern Portugal where the land is lush and emerald green.

People in the area have been making wine for hundreds of years. The same boats that carried world famous salt cod (bacalhau) would also carry Vinho Verde to European export markets. 

 

What makes Vinho Verde so refreshing? The grapes are picked young and then crushed to make an energetic, light, fresh wine. 

 

In Portugal, wine is an essential part of everyday life.
